Yahooею got an update. Even though the logo got updated in 2013, this has been a somewhat slow release. I’ve had one of these shirts probably for about 10 years now. Still going strong, but time to order a new one.

Logo ideas while you drive
When someone asks me to design a logo — there are various ways I would approach it. But when nobody asks me to design one, I’m out there walking or driving or riding and noting down ideas for myself.
The other day, drove past the Hillsong Church in Redfern. Always seem to drive past it, as it’s one of the backstreets to cut around the traffic. So on the building (which looks nothing like a church btw) there is a banner which looked something like this:
Without getting into my general views on religion, I’ll tell you this — it gave me an idea for a logo. The customer would have to be somewhat specific though, a Religious Christian Maths Tutor to be exact. Well, when this client comes my way — I’ll have a logo ready for him/her.
What do Herman Miller, Motorola and Hilton have in common?
Not much, but from time to time I do like to find specific elements of a logo that are used somewhere else. In no way I am saying they have copied each other, or one logo had inspired the other (maybe it did). But — the similarity is definitely there.
One night stand
Pretty excited about TripleJ’s One Night Stand. It’s big, it’s free and it’s once a year. They usually pick a small(ish) town somewhere in Australia. This year it’s NSW and the destination is Dubbo! From my place, according to Google Maps, it’s approx. 400 km or 5 hours drive. Not too bad. Last night I checked the accommodation around Dubbo, today I checked again and it’s booked out. I guess camping it is, which was our preference anyway.
While looking at the Dubbo Tourism website, I couldn’t help but notice their logo. It’s cute, it has a smiley face and it also looks strangely familiar. I wonder who came up with the concept first, The City of Dusseldorf or Dubbo? 🙂

I posted a comment regarding this on Twitter and just as it happens, the guys at Dubbo City are keeping their eye on social media quite well. So their design came first… which I guess could be true, since I’ve actually found a few other people mentioning that the Dusseldorf logo isn’t that original.

Eastside Learning Centre
Eastside Learning Center used to be a part of a group, based all over Sydney. When they decided to go on their own, they also thought that they could do with an updated logo.
Why stop there?

I might be a bit slow (or how Russians call it — a hand break), but I’ve just noticed that Adobe took the idea for their new icons from the Periodic Table of Elements. 🙂
Горский еврей
В нашей компашке есть много ребят из Кавказа. Дружим мы близко много лет, друг над другом любим по-прикалываться, особенно над тем, откуда мы приехали, где выросли или родились. Так как они из Кавказа, я их называю хачиками, а они меня, хохлом (или деревенским, ведь родился я в маленьком городе на Украине). Но мы друзья, тут все без обид или конфликтов, хотя со стороны люди часто немного в шоке, когда у нас начинается “дружелюбный разговор”. A хачики эти еще и евреи, так называемые горские евреи.
Всю жизнь в Австралии мы пьем напиток, Mountain Dew. Лично я считаю что это один из самых вкусных (из газированных) напитков, с этим и согласны многие другие… а еще вкус (и цвет) немного напоминает Русский напиток детства, Тархун, или какой-то другой, и то, скорее всего только цветом, так как вкус Русских soft-drinks за это время давно забыл. Mountain Dew, на слух – mountain jew, и там долго думать не надо, раз mountain jew, значит горский еврей.
От туда и пошли приколы, “Ты что пьешь, горского?” или “Возьми пару бутылок колы и одного горского еврея”. Долго хотел поменять их этикетку и захуярить это на футболку, при этом сделать ее подарком для одного из пацанов. Наверно в этом я уже не оригинален, но меня это, само собой, не очень волнует.
Сделал.
А вот и он, один из наших горских, сделал кок-раз вовремя и подарил ему на день рождение.
